Teen Artist Transforms Carrier’s Adolescent Library into a Work of Art!
By:
Community Relations Department
What started out as a small project to rejuvenate a makeshift library on The Adolescent Unit at Carrier Clinic was celebrated as a work of art this past Friday. Teen artist, Molly Kunzman, and community partners, including The Somerset Art Association, were presented with a community partnership award from C. Richard Sarle, President and CEO of Carrier Clinic.
The Teen Library Project has been in the works for more than 6 months and includes over 20 community partners. During the second phase of the project, Ms. Kunzman was approached by the Somerset Art Association to create a piece of art that would be enjoyed by other adolescents who were being hospitalized for various psychiatric illnesses.
Ms. Kunzman, a high school senior who attends the Kent Place School, was assisted by her mother, Jane Kunzman, a holistic art educator, during the week-long process to create the mural for the new Teen Library. In addition, generous donations from The Hyde and Watson Foundation, Janssen Pharmaceutica, Xerox Corporation, The Somerset County Library System, GPSG Unit, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, sanofi-aventis, Chicklet Books and ICI Flooring have filled the library with new couches & rockers, books, magazines, coffee tables, curtains and rugs. This has made the room a warm, safe and inspiring space that will be enjoyed by hundreds of adolescents each year.

Carrier Clinic offers Mental Health and Addiction Education through “Empowering Moments” Series
By:
Community Relations Department: 908-281-1513
Belle Mead, NJ- Earlier this year, Carrier Clinic, working in conjunction with Radio station Magic 98.3FM, began the “Empowering Moment” series to educate the public about common Mental Health and Addiction disorders. Topics are rotated on a monthly basis, and have included: Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Bipolar Disorder and alcohol abuse. Each month, one member of Carrier’s professional clinical staff is featured on the minute-long segment, which empowers the public to identify and find help for mental health or addictions issues they may be facing.
Mary Pawlikowski, COO of Carrier Clinic, states: “This series is intended to give those who suffer from mental health or addiction disorders the strength to make that call to a healthcare provider to ask for help. Too often, the stigma around substance abuse and mental health issues is a tremendous barrier to getting professional care, and people suffer needlessly because of it.”
The “Empowered Moment” vignette runs several times daily on Magic 98.3 FM, and its sister stations, the WRAT 95.9FM and WCTC 1450AM.
