East Mountain School
Extracurricular Activities
Activities designed to enhance and support learning experiences.
Students at East Mountain School are able to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities that encompass art, music, sports, technology, science and community service–all of which are designed to enhance and support their learning experiences.

Arts and Crafts
Students can engage in creation of specialized arts and crafts projects. The program is facilitated by the school's art teacher.
Competitive Sports Program
Provides an opportunity to play competitive sports activities such as softball, basketball, soccer and tennis with students within the ASAH network of special schools. A swimming program is also available during the summer session.
Community Service Activites
Students learn to serve others in the community through their volunteer efforts with senior citizens, veterans groups, charitable organizations, even working with patients within various hospital settings.
Instrumental Music
East Mountain School promotes student learning in the instrumental music area. Students are able to learn how to play various musical instruments including piano, keyboard, drums, and both electric and acoustical guitars. Our students also engage in specialized theater and dance programs where they are able to show off their performing arts skills.
Photography
The East Mountain School program has developed opportunities for students to learn aspects of digital photography. Students have created digital portfolios and have even decorated the school with their formal pictures taken during photography classes.
Robotics and Technology Programs
Newly added to the school’s curriculum, students have the opportunity to build actual robots and engage in the use of technology-based projects in augmenting learning.
Science Fair
Science and Mathematics Teachers promote the creation of various student projects that support the Science and Mathematics Core Curriculum Standards. The completed projects are often displayed on campus to show off students efforts in this area.
Swimming
Students are able to engage in swimming activities during school summer sessions as part of recreational programs.
Technology/Synergistic Projects
EMS has promoted projects that facilitate hands-on, tactile based learning. Students are engaged in building various projects based on Synergistics Learning. Projects range from creation of robots to the building of miniature structures such as bridges and buildings. Students have also worked with miniature autos and airplanes, actually building and testing the “vehicles.” Of course, all projects are tied into science and mathematics concepts as part of curriculum facilitation.
TENNIS
Students have the opportunity to participate in tennis as a sport, playing in on-campus courts that are available to them.
YEARBOOK
EMS publishes a yearbook every school year that highlights each grade level class as well as activities that make each year special. Students work directly with the yearbook coordinator in creation of the book. The book is completely paid for through fundraising activities and a copy is provided free of charge for all EMS students.
Field Day Activities
Field Day Activities are orchestrated by the school’s physical education teacher and afford students the opportunity to participate in structured and organized gym and game activities. |
